Residential French camp in Leysin, Switzerland

For over 52 years, the delightful alpine village of Leysin perched high above Lake Geneva, has been at the heart of the Village Camps Summer Camp programme. The camp has welcomed hundreds thousands of youngsters from all over the world. With campers typically coming from more than 30 different countries in each session, making new ‘international’ friends is easy! Accommodation is at the Village Camps owned and operated Swiss Alpine Centre from where campers enjoy a friendly welcome, very comfortable accommodation and hearty meals. From the sunny south-facing terraces there are amazing, panoramic views over to the distant French Alps. The Centre is the base for the Village Camps specialist programmes for children in the 7-17 age-range offering a wide-ranging choice of fun-packed programmes. These include the most popular Adventure Camp, Sports Camp, Football Camp, Performing Arts Camp, VC-STEM Robotics Camp, Tennis Camp, Language Camps, and the award-winning Leadership Training courses. Everyone will have time to enjoy the pure mountain air and the natural environment of this alpine paradise with its meadows, forests and wild-life. Highlights include a hike and stay in an overnight mountain hut as well as various different excursions in and around the Lac Leman area.

At Leysin every camper starts by choosing a base programme, whether that is a language, tennis, adventure, dance, STEM robotics or leadership, and with only a few exceptions that specialised instruction fills a three-hour block each morning. Once the morning session ends, the whole camp comes back together: children from all the different programmes mix for the general camp activity programme that runs through the afternoons and evenings, so a tennis camper, a French student and a robotics builder end the day side by side. For those shared afternoon and evening activities, and for rooming, campers are organised into colour groups by age so the pace and expectations suit them, while within the morning programmes the groups are also set by skill level so beginners and more experienced campers are each challenged appropriately. Supervision sits at an average of one counsellor to six children, and phones are handed in on arrival with a single daily check-in period, which is what gives the days their face-to-face, fully present feel. With nine programmes running side by side on one Alpine site and campers arriving from more than fifty countries, the Leysin programme is built around that combination of focused morning learning and a genuinely international shared afternoon.

Safety & Supervision

First-aid trained staff

An excellent average ratio of 1:6 between counsellors and children on each site ensures effective supervision, great care and strong guidance for all young campers. Counsellors are responsible for direct supervision. When taking into account the management team staff members, facilities staff, nurses and other support adults present on site, the ratio of Village Camps staff members to children can be as generous as 1:4! During every activity all precautionary safety measures are in place and followed strictly. All Village Camps counsellors are required to have full CPR and First Aid certification. In addition, at all camp sites there are full-time Health Care Specialists looking after campers' health. They are responsible for any first aid, the organisation and distribution of medicines, liaising with local doctors and hospitals as necessary and keeping all records relating to any illness or accident.

At just an hour’s drive from Geneva International Airport the Swiss Alpine Centre is located in Leysin, high in the Swiss Alps. From its sunny terraces, common rooms and many of the bedrooms right the centre offers spectacular views across the Rhone Valley to the dramatic French Alps and the peak of Mont Blanc. Right at our doorstep there are walking and hiking paths to the green alpine meadows with colourful flowers, wildlife and the invigorating fresh mountain air. The centre welcomes up to 180 campers from all over the world for the speciality programmes with the exception of the Leadership Training Camp (LTC). Leadership Training Camp (LTC) is designed for 15-17 years old and takes place at the Alpine Classic Hotel, a first-class facility in the centre of Leysin. Campers are assigned to rooms according to age and gender. Experienced counsellors (who stay in rooms near the campers) are responsible for taking special care of each and every camper.

Pickup service · For our Leysin camp we can welcome children at Geneva Airport where we will escort them up to camp either by train or bus. If campers are flying using the Unaccompanied Minor service we are able to provide the details of our airport manager to ensure a smooth pick up. Please contact us for the available time frames for this service.
