Activities

Special focus

English · Languages

The summer school is built around a simple rhythm: mornings belong to your child's chosen specialism, afternoons belong to activities and sport shared with Ratcliffe College day students, and twice a week the whole group heads off campus on a cultural trip. Families choose one of four routes — the Intensive English Language Programme with over 30 hours of English and multi-activity lessons a week, the Steinway & Sons Grand Piano Masterclass, the Summer Tennis Academy with LTA-accredited coaches, or a non-residential day option for families staying locally — and every route includes the same multi-activity afternoons. Stays run from one to four weeks with arrivals and departures every Sunday, so the programme can be shaped around travel plans and how long a child wants to immerse themselves. What sets it apart is the integration: because British day students join the afternoon activities, international students practise English in genuine friendships rather than only in lessons. Everything is taught and supervised by Ratcliffe College's own teaching staff within a traditional British boarding school setting, with the College's pastoral care carrying over into the summer.

Ratcliffe College's Summer Camp is independently operated. The teachers who instruct the classes and organise the activities are all the college's own faculty. During the camp, campus security is well-maintained, and the school nurse is also on duty, which made us feel very reassured. The teachers were incredibly nice, and the food provided was absolutely delicious!

Our teachers and students have been highly satisfied with Ratcliffe’s teaching and activity arrangements. The school is always willing to listen and responds promptly, making each experience a pleasant one for us.

My time at the Ratcliffe Summer School was truly exceptional. The program masterfully balanced study and activities. The courses were engaging and thought-provoking, taught by passionate teachers who genuinely encouraged deep discussion. Beyond the classroom, the diverse activities and excursions were brilliantly organised, fostering both fun and lasting friendships with peers from around the world. It was more than just a summer course; it was an immersive experience that significantly broadened my horizons and boosted my confidence. I cannot recommend it highly enough to any student seeking a stimulating and unforgettable summer.
