Residential English camp in Norwich, United Kingdom

During the summer, we offer 'English + Activities for Global Competence'. This course is aimed at students aged 11-17 and combines General English lessons, activities, and Global Competence sessions to support students to gain essential skills for the future whilst also having fun in English. In the mornings, students will cover all four General English skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening whilst taking part in intercultural activities and projects. Students will begin to develop their sense of awareness as ‘global citizens’ through sessions aimed at expanding their worldview. Lessons will be tailored to the age and language level of participants, and will encourage students to begin comparing different cultures and expressing their own views on topics related to the world around them. In the afternoons, students will put their new skills into practice and participate in a range of cultural, sport and leisure activities with their classmates. Examples include bowling, laser tag, visits to the Cathedral and Castle Museum, cinema trips, escape rooms, and much more. Morning classes run from 09:30-13:00, and afternoon activities typically run from 14:00-16:00.

The programme for 11 to 17 year olds is built around a simple, steady rhythm: mornings in class, afternoons out in Norwich putting the language to work. Teaching covers all four General English skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, wrapped inside intercultural projects and Global Competence sessions that ask students to compare cultures and give their own view on the world around them, with lessons pitched to each group's age and language level. Classes are deliberately small, averaging six to eight students and capped at fourteen, so teachers can adapt the pace and give personal feedback rather than teach to the middle. Each week brings fifteen hours of English plus seven and a half hours of organised cultural, sport and leisure activities, always shared with classmates from other countries so English remains the common language outside the classroom too. Students come from A2 (Elementary) level upwards and stay from one week, which means groups mix newcomers and returners in the same friendly community.

First-aid trained staff

The school premises are assessed regularly, and risk assessments are undertaken for all activities. Key health & safety information is shared with new students in our Student Handbooks, which will be sent to students before arrival. Regular fire safety drills are carried out, and there is always a qualified First Aider and Fire Marshall on-site.

For students under the age of 18, we only offer homestay accommodation with one of our friendly host families. Students will either have a private bedroom or may share a bedroom if requested. Some host families offer a private bathroom for students, but this is subject to availability and is not guaranteed. Staying with a host family is an excellent opportunity for students to practise their language skills in everyday situations outside of the classroom, and to engage in British culture. Our hosts live an average of 20 minutes' bus ride from the school, so it's easy for students to travel around the city.

City centre

The school sits at 5 Tombland in the heart of Norwich, a few steps from the cathedral and within easy walking distance of the castle, museums and the city's shops and cinemas, which is why so much of the afternoon programme happens on foot. Teaching rooms are sized for small groups, with classes averaging six to eight students and a maximum of fourteen, and study resources are on hand for students who want to keep working outside lesson time. The office on the first floor is where the student support team can be found, and students are asked to come to the school for 9:00 on their first day with a passport or national ID card to complete registration. Norwich itself is compact and welcoming, and as the first English UNESCO City of Literature it makes a fitting setting for a language school.
