The International Summer School for Teens (ISSFT) provides a unique experience for young people from different nations and backgrounds to study and have fun together in a choice of beautiful, supportive and safe environments. Through our unique curriculum, we encourage intellectual curiosity and support our students in developing a healthy sense of independence and self esteem. We provide a varied, challenging and exciting range of educational classes. To ensure the highest of teaching standards we maintain limited places, guaranteeing small class sizes and individual student attention. Our learning outcomes provide new opportunities for students, including the chance to appreciate different perspectives. Our main objective is to provide a world education, see our students grow in confidence and ultimately make good life decisions. We want to prepare them for the future and give them the tools to flourish. Our school takes place during the summer holidays, and fun is part of the package. As well as academic, sporting and creative classes, all of our programmes include a huge range of exciting activities to help students make friends, relax and re-energise. The long, light evenings of the British summer mean we can offer plenty of activity in the fresh air, as well as indoors. Our stunning University of Oxford campus, situated in the heart of historic Oxford, is only one 45 minutes from London’s Heathrow airport. Oxford’s unparalleled surroundings, inspirational landmarks, and modern shops and cafes, make it perfectly placed for creating new memories. Further afield lie some interesting cultural and historical places such as London and Stratford, and leisure attractions, including the Warwick Castle.

Activities

Special focus

English · Languages

The Oxford programme is built on a dual-study structure: each student picks one academic subject for the mornings and one elective for the afternoons, and stays with both for the whole course. That deliberate narrowing is what gives the fortnight its depth, because rather than sampling a dozen taster sessions a student makes visible progress in, say, English or Global Leadership before lunch and in tennis, photography or Sports Leadership afterwards. Class sizes are kept small and student numbers capped, so instructors know each teenager and quieter arrivals are drawn in during the first settling-in days. Once lessons finish the day keeps moving: a full activity programme after class, competitive sporting, artistic and social events in the evenings, clan events that mix the nationalities together, and cultural excursions at weekends. With students from over 90 countries and nationality quotas kept to a roughly ten percent mix, English is the working language of the whole day, on the pitch and at dinner as much as in the classroom.

We found ISSFT while searching for a summer school focused on improving English language skills. An added bonus was the school’s elective golf program as our son is an avid golfer. We researched the organization on line and checked its credentials and inspection reports, all of which were very positive. We have been very impressed during our interaction with the school. All emails were answered promptly and precisely, the parent portal is easy to navigate and informative. We especially appreciated the daily blogs and activity information published on the portal which allowed us to know what our son was doing without being intrusive. Upon his return home we could see that his writing skills had greatly improved and that a new understanding for how to manage study time was top of mind, and, of course, he was in heaven regarding his rounds on the classic golf courses in the area. He really hopes that we will send him back as he had a great time! As a parent I was also very pleased with the security mindedness of the team, I received prompt notification when staff met up with our son at Edinburgh airport as well as when he was dropped off at the airport and the flight had departed. Our son said staff were really good at getting so many different ages, nationalities and temperaments working together. We have recommended this school to our friends and would not hesitate to send our son back in the future.

Our daughter (16 years old) had an incredible experience at the Oxford camp. She can't stop raving about it. It was a good mix of academics and activities, and she made wonderful friends among both students and counselors. The ISSFT team is dedicated and pays attention to details. I highly recommend this for any teen who wants a rich international learning experience.

Meals

lunch

Packed lunches with a small treat are provided on trip days.

Food is treated as part of feeling at home here: every student sits down to freshly prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner each day, planned as a balanced and nutritional diet rather than a canteen afterthought. On days when the group heads out on an excursion, the kitchen sends everyone off with a packed lunch and a small treat tucked in. Dietary requirements are catered for, so parents can flag needs before arrival and know their child will be properly fed.

Getting your child there

Airport

Heathrow

Pickup service · On opening day ISSFT organises supervised group transport from London Heathrow to the Oxford campus, so arriving students are met by staff and travel together rather than finding their own way. Transfers to and from selected airports are covered by the programme fee; if your child needs to travel outside the scheduled arrival or departure windows, a private pickup can be arranged for an additional charge. At the end of the session staff accompany students back to Heathrow and escort them through to the check-in gate, remaining at the airport until every flight has departed.
