Residential German camp in Reimlingen, Germany

The course center is at Tagungshaus Reimlingen, which is situated in a beautiful park on the edge of town with views of the amazing landscape. The school combines the grand look of a castle-like building with the modern amenities of an up-to-date conference center. It offers ideal conditions for our students to learn German and enjoy their free time in the school’s own sports and leisure facilities. All the comfortable rooms have their own bathroom and shower and are shared by two to four students each. The center also has Wi-Fi access. We carefully choose the students who will share a room with each other. We take care to match roommates who have a comparable German language level and are of similar age, yet speak different native languages. This way we encourage them to speak and practice German with each other outside of the classroom. Boys and girls are housed separately. Our students receive three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) as well as a snack daily. Laundry service is offered to all students free of charge once a week for their personal laundry. Bed linen and towels will be provided and changed regularly.

Activities

Special focus

German · Languages

Reimlingen is built as a complete package for nine to thirteen-year-olds: German lessons fill the mornings, and the afternoons and evenings belong to a staff-led activity programme that runs every day, so children always know what comes next and never have to organise themselves. Counsellors propose a changing mix of sport, games and cultural activities and actively encourage every child to join in — participation in the leisure programme and the two weekly excursions is part of the deal rather than optional — which is precisely how shy beginners end up speaking German outside the classroom. The setting does a lot of the work: the school sits in a large park on the edge of the village, far from busy streets, with a playground, a play meadow, a big sports field, a spacious indoor sports hall for rainy days and a fire pit, plus indoor and outdoor pools nearby and school-owned mountain bikes for regular rides through the Geopark Ries countryside. One feature particular to this location is the optional beginners' horseback riding course, for which staff accompany children to a nearby stable and lessons are given in groups or individually on the lunge, depending on ability. Supervision is round the clock, and with roommates deliberately matched across different native languages, German remains the shared language from breakfast through the evening.

Getting your child there

Airport

Airport Munich (MUC)

Pickup service · Most families fly their child into Munich Airport, from where the Humboldt transfer service brings them safely to Reimlingen. A staff member meets the students in the terminal and drives them to the course centre by car, minibus or occasionally coach, usually together with other arriving students, so a wait of up to one hour (exceptionally two) should be expected. Flight details — flight number, airline and arrival and departure times — must reach the booking office no later than seven days before arrival, otherwise a late booking fee applies. The transfer costs EUR 140 one way, with an extra EUR 50 for children travelling as unaccompanied minors on their departure flight, and fees are doubled if arrival or departure falls outside the official Sunday arrival and Saturday departure days.

€140 · optional
By car

Schloßstraße 2, 86756 Reimlingen, Germany

Parents driving their child themselves bring them directly to the course centre at Schloßstraße 2, 86756 Reimlingen, set in a park on the edge of the village away from busy roads. Arrival day is the Sunday before the course begins and departure the Saturday after it ends; if your travel days differ, the booking office asks to be told as early as possible. A refundable cash deposit of 50 euros is collected on arrival and returned on departure once the room key is handed back.

Train station

Nördlingen railway station

Pickup service · Children arriving by train are collected from Nördlingen station free of charge by Humboldt staff, who drive them the short distance to the course centre — Reimlingen lies just four kilometres south of the medieval town of Nördlingen. As with flights, travel details should be sent to the school in good time so the pick-up can be planned around the official Sunday arrival day.
