How Translations Work for Your Camp Listing

Your camp page is shown to families in eight languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Japanese. A family browsing in French sees your page under world-camps.org/fr/ with your content in French. This article explains what gets translated, when, and what you can edit yourself.

What gets translated, and on which plan

Automatic translation is included with the Marketplace, Pro and Premium plans (the plan is set per camp). Everything a family reads on your page is covered:

• Short text: your camp name and description, session names, add-on names and descriptions.
• Rich sections: programme description, activities, excursions & trips, what's included, meals, accommodation, campus facilities, safety & supervision, screen-time policy, getting there, and the other detailed sections of your profile.

Dates, prices, times, addresses and links stay exactly as you entered them; only the descriptive text is translated.

On the free listing your page is shown in English, and the key facts (ages, dates, prices, location, activity labels) appear in every language. You can still write your own translations on any plan, at any time (see below).

When translations appear

Translations are generated automatically after you publish your camp. They run overnight and are usually live within 24 to 48 hours of publishing. Until then, the other language versions of your page show your key facts and the sections that are already translated. A section that isn't translated yet is simply not shown in that language rather than shown in English, which is why your French page can look shorter than your English page for a day or two after publishing.

The same schedule applies to changes: when you edit your English text, the affected translations are refreshed on the following nights. The previous translation stays visible until the new one lands.

Checking and editing translations

In your camp editor, open Translations (under Review & publish). Each language is shown side by side with your English text, and every field carries a status:

• Missing: not translated yet.
• Auto: generated automatically, not edited by you.
• Edited: written or corrected by you.
• Stale: you changed the English original since this translation was made. An automatic translation is refreshed on the next run; one you edited yourself is left for you to re-check.

You can edit the short text fields directly on that page: camp name, description, session names, add-on names and descriptions. A translation you edit yourself is kept and never overwritten automatically, even if you change the English afterwards.

The rich sections (schedules, activities, facilities, meals and so on) are translated automatically and can't be edited language by language. If one looks out of date, use Refresh auto-translations for that language: the automatic translations are regenerated on the next nightly run, and your own edits are preserved.

Good to know

• Keep English as your source: edit the English text first, then check the Translations page.
• Names of places, venues and programmes are kept as you wrote them.
• If a translation still hasn't appeared 48 hours after publishing, write to support@world-camps.org with the link to your camp.
