You'll be covering the technical and design processes of creating your own capsule wardrobe for the summer. You'll be able to make garments such as skirts, blazers, jackets, dresses, loungewear, swimwear, and accessories, the possibilities are endless. Learn to sew traditional jersey finishes and attach lace to stretch fabric. This programme is perfect for a teenager who is curious about learning how to sew, design and make their own clothes, use and alter patterns and would like to know information on what it takes to be a designer. There will be a constant gaze on sustainability and how you can make your process as sustainable and zero-waste as possible. This course is inclusive of male and gender-neutral designs. You will learn how to: • Assume the role of the designer and develop your own ideas into a design • Work with fabrics donated from local designers within a 7 mile radius • Create mood boards/design development sheets and learn why designers use them • Pattern cut, sew and construct your own garment • Take your first steps into the fashion industry Whilst learning valuable skills such as: • Communication • Fashion design • Fabric knowledge • Embellishment • Accuracy • Machine and hand sewing You will leave with: • Design development sheets • An outfit designed and made by yourself • A digital certificate of completion What You Need: • Students must arrive with packed lunches, snacks and a re-usable bottle of water each day. • We provide all materials and sewing equipment. Schedule: • Monday to Friday, 10.00 am – 6.00 pm

The programme runs as a series of separate themed weeks in a Chelsea studio, non-residential, from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday, so families choose the course whose subject suits their child rather than joining one long rotating camp. Each course has its own focus, from a luxury-inspired sewing project and a sustainable summer capsule wardrobe to a calm sketchbook and design journal workshop and a flexible finale week where students pick their own project, and briefs within every course are adapted to the individual's experience so beginners are never left behind. Days flow between design research, illustration and sketchbook work at the table and hands-on pattern cutting, sewing and finishing at the machines, with tutors who are working fashion designers moving between students. The school keeps age brackets tight so that each group is taught at a level tailored to them, and groups of five or more can commission a bespoke private programme in a separate studio. What gives the weeks their character is the mix of proper studio craft, an unusually generous store of donated fabrics and short supervised trips into London's luxury fashion district that feed straight back into what students make.

- What happens in the case of an accident or emergency? As our residential staff are first aid trained and will be on hand 24 hours a day, they will be able to act quickly if there is an accident or emergency. The nearest A&E is Chelsea and Westminster Hospital which is 5 minutes away from both Lightfoot Hall and our studio at Kensington and Chelsea College. All students must provide the contact details of two parents or guardians prior to starting the course who must be available during the programme. It is vital that we have the correct information in case of an emergency.
Meals
Lunch is a relaxed, bring-your-own affair rather than something the school caters, so no meals are included in the fee. Most students arrive with a packed lunch; families can also pre-order a lunchbox from Farm Girl, and with permission students may buy something from one of the nearby cafes during the break in the 10am to 4pm studio day.
Screen time policy
You are permitted to bring your mobile phone with you. Please keep it in your bag unless you are doing a research activity and the tutor allows you to research on your phone.
The campus
Urban fashion studio in Chelsea, central London
The school works from a studio in Chelsea, a few streets from the boutiques of Sloane Street and Knightsbridge, which is part of why the days can move so easily between designing indoors and looking at real fashion outside. Days are spent at cutting tables and sewing machines, with an extensive store of donated dead stock fabrics and haberdashery for students to raid for their projects, and a private studio kept aside for bespoke group programmes. The studio doors stay closed to visitors during teaching so students can concentrate, and open when the school holds an exhibition of their work. Reassuringly, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is five minutes away from both the studio at Kensington and Chelsea College and Lightfoot Hall.

Drop-off at the Chelsea studio
The studio is on the first floor at 6 Burnsall Street in Chelsea, SW3 3ST, and general studio hours run Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, with exact times confirmed on your booking. Parents or guardians are asked to drop off and collect their child each day unless they have told the school in advance that the student will be making their own way. Classes start promptly, so arriving more than five minutes late means missing the start of the group's work, and at the end of the day there is a fifteen-minute grace period before the school's late collection arrangements apply.
