Activities

Special focus

Academic · Academic

The programme runs on a clear daily rhythm rather than a timetable of unconnected classes. At Camp Dragon the whole school gathers first thing for Rise and Shine, where the day's theme is revealed and everyone sings the camp chant, then moves through three linked sessions: Discover, which opens up the subject through experiments and escape-room style puzzles; Develop, where academic content and the functional English needed for the day are taught together; and Dare, a surprise workshop or challenge that might be drumming on Music Day or coding robots on Maths Day. Each theme leads outwards into an excursion or into Showtime events such as Mystery Night, the Trashion Show and the Talent Show, so what is learned in the morning gets used somewhere real. Older students at Headington follow the same balance with 15 hours of project-based learning a week alongside sports, arts, adventure activities, excursions and whole-school themed events, while the 15-17 group at Oxford College adds guest lectures, industry experience and interdisciplinary Time to Shine projects. Evenings are elective: after dinner students choose their own activity from sport, arts and crafts, STEM challenges and performances through to board games or a nature walk. Coursebooks are deliberately absent from the youngest programme, with every part of the day, from classroom to playground to cafeteria, treated as a chance to use English.

When I came here I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with my future...by experiencing all of these subjects I've got a better picture of what I want to do now. I have learnt a lot and I am ready for my future.
