Residential English camp in Cambridge, United Kingdom
IH London’s Cambridge Young Learner Centre is held in the prestigious Anglia Ruskin University, located in Cambridge city centre. Only 1.5 hours from London, Cambridge is a historic city famous for its ancient university. We host one English language course at this centre, for students aged 14-17. Cambridge is a small, safe and beautiful city, full of culture and history. Students will learn English, meet new friends from all over the world, explore London and other parts of the UK on fantastic supervised study trips, and enhance life skills such as confidence, team-working and independence. There are on-site social activities every evening and the course focuses on learning through fun, with different topics every week. Students will be looked after 24/7 by IH London on-site staff and we’ll meet them at London Heathrow airport upon arrival.

The week follows a clear and reassuring rhythm: mornings belong to English lessons, afternoons to activities and excursions, and evenings to getting to know the friends made in class. After lunch, students move into their English+ or specialist coaching slot — football, tennis, dance or movie-making are the optional specialisms on Classic Summer, while Future Leaders students spend that time in project workshops with guest speakers — and then a general sports and activities session before free time and dinner. Evenings are run by the residential team and range from quizzes and talent shows to movie nights and discos, closing with house time and a house meeting before lights out. Saturdays are given over to a full-day excursion, and on Sundays the students themselves choose where the group goes. What shapes the atmosphere most is the mix: classes and houses bring together young people from more than sixty countries, so English is genuinely the shared language of the football pitch and the dinner table as well as the classroom, and independence is practised inside a structure where a trained adult is always close by.

Your child eats on a full-board basis, with the day framed by meals shared with new friends: breakfast before the morning assembly, lunch after lessons and dinner in the early evening before house time and evening activities. On Saturday excursion days a packed lunch travels with the group so nobody goes hungry between walking tours and landmark visits. Dietary requirements and allergies are catered for, and the welfare officers at each centre take responsibility for these needs alongside the rest of a student's wellbeing.

Students will stay in safe and secure single en-suite bedrooms. The accommodation is located directly across the road from the campus where lessons and activities take place, and students will be escorted across the road by an adult at all times.

Airport
Heathrow
Pickup service · Heathrow is the most commonly used arrival airport for students joining the programme, and a transfer can be arranged for an additional fee that you book at the point of enrolment rather than later in the summer. Staff meet arriving students at the airport and bring them to the centre, where check-in takes place on Wednesday arrival day. On the final day students are accompanied to their airport departure, and the airline's unaccompanied minor (UM) service can also be arranged for a fee if your child is travelling alone. Transfers are also offered from Gatwick, Stansted and Luton on the same basis.

Families who prefer to bring their child themselves drop off at the centre on Wednesday, the fixed arrival and departure day for every session. On arrival students check in, meet their house parents, settle into their rooms and join a welcome event and orientation activities with classmates from around the world, so the first afternoon is already social rather than simply administrative. Departures also take place on a Wednesday at the end of the stay.
