Bede's Summer School welcomes over 1,500 students year on year aged 6-20 from up to 60 different countries and offers a range of fully inclusive residential and day summer programmes at 5 beautiful boarding school and university locations in South East England in July and August: - Brighton; - Dicker; - Eastbourne; - Lancing; - Windlesham. Easter Programme is also available between 22 March and 11 April 2026 in Dicker. Bede's Summer School aims to provide an amazing and unforgettable linguistic, social and cultural experience to every single one of its students. Our range of different courses include: - Little Explorers; - Future Explorers; - English Plus; - English for the Future; - Pathways to Higher Education; as well as Specialist Courses which include: - LALIGA Football Camps UK; - Pro Tennis; - Pro Dance; - Pro Music; - Business Leadership; - Bear Grylls Adventure Camp; - Zoology and Animal Management. Some of Bede's courses use CLIL methodology, teaching English through a range of subjects such as Science and History, expanding students’ knowledge of the world at the same time as improving their language skills. Some courses are based around outdoor learning and improving 21st century skills whilst some courses give students the feel for university subjects and life in an academic context. Intensive examination courses are available (Cambridge B1 Preliminary, B2 First and C1 Advanced in Lancing, and IELTS in Brighton) for those students who wish to leave Bede’s with a recognised qualification. Optional Academies offer professional tuition in a wide range of sports, leisure pursuits, creative activities and academic subjects and are designed to increase students’ skills, technique and knowledge. A full list of Bede's Academies include: - Academic Academies: Conversation Confidence, Critical Thinking, Essay Writing, Psychology and Public Speaking; - Creative Academies: Film and Animation, LEGO and Coding, Masterchef, and Pottery and Ceramics; - Sport and Adventure Academies: Clay Pigeon Shooting, E-Kart Racing, Flying, Golf, Horse Riding, Indoor Climbing, Padel, Sailing, Swimming, Tennis and Zookeeper Experience. Bede's Summer School is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK (last inspection August 2022 resulted in strengths in 10 areas) and is a proud member of Quality English and English UK. Bede’s Summer School has also been named a Centre of Excellence by the EL Gazette since 2013.

At the Dicker centre the week is built around a core of 20 hours of English for 12 to 17 year olds, with the rest of the timetable given over to an activity and social programme and to excursions whose attraction entry is already covered by the fee. Because Bede's sets carefully defined age ranges for each centre and course, the academic, social and excursion elements at Dicker are shaped around what this particular age group enjoys rather than being a one-size-fits-all timetable. The classroom and the programme outside it are designed to work together, so the English students practise in lessons is the English they need at activities, at mealtimes and on trips. Nationality mixing is deliberate: enrolment is capped at around 20 per cent of any one native language per operational week, and room-sharing requests between friends or siblings are discouraged so that English stays the common language. Most families stay a minimum of two weeks, arriving on a Sunday and leaving on a Saturday, which gives students time to settle into the rhythm of the campus.

Bede’s is a great school and I recommend it! The teachers and staff are great and I liked my room and the house. There are a lot of nationalities so you can make a lot of friends! We had fun and the weeks went by really fast! Bede’s is the best summer school!

Safeguarding and the health and well-being of our students is the top priority across St Bede’s Trust Sussex. We are led by the Director of Safeguarding and Designated Safeguarding Lead, who oversees all the training of Summer School staff to ensure that everyone is aware of their role and responsibility in keeping students safe. A Medical Officer is on site at each centre to provide medical care and dispense medicines. We ask parents/ guardians to notify us in advance of any pre-existing conditions and prescription drug needs. Many of the staff are first aid trained so they are able to deal with small incidents which may occur during activities and excursions. An emergency 24/7 contact number is provided to every student and parent/guardian.
Meals
The residential fee is full board, so every meal and the snacks in between are taken care of from the moment your child arrives until they leave, with nothing extra to budget for. Special dietary requirements are catered for at all centres wherever possible, and the school asks that they be set out in full at the time of booking so the kitchen team can advise before arrival.
Screen time policy
In Eastbourne and Windlesham, students are asked to give in their phones for safekeeping on arrival and can use them for 1h a day to contact their family and friends. In Dicker and Lancing, students keep their phones in their bedrooms throughout the day and can responsibly use them on excursions. In Brighton, student are advised to use their phones wisely to allow for socialisation and advised to take caution when using phones during lessons, activities and social events. All schools have filtered and monitored wifi network.

Accommodation is separate for boys and girls. In our younger centres, Eastbourne and Windlesham, bedrooms are multi-bedded with shared bathrooms and suitable for younger students aged 6 to 13. In our older centres, Lancing and Dicker, bedrooms range from single/double to quadruple, with shared bathrooms. Boarding houses have common rooms for students to relax in. In Brighton, students can enjoy single ensuite bedrooms in flats of 8, with common kitchen/living room area that most appeal to students aged 15-20. Facilities in boarding schools include sports halls, dining rooms, tennis courts, cafes, football pitches, gyms, swimming pools, and exclusively our Bede's Dicker location has our own Bede's Zoo.
