Adventure Camp

Safety sits at the centre of how Treasure Island runs its days, and the whole risk management system is externally audited against the British Standard BS 8848:2014, with a third-party safety audit every three years by recognised bodies including ROSA, Outdoors Mark NZ and BSI. Every activity carries its own risk assessment and mitigation procedures, and leaders are trained and formally assessed as competent for the sessions they lead, backed by an average of 33 days of staff training each year. All leaders hold Basic First Aid certification, all safety equipment is provided, and the camp works from a private campsite where private overnight security can be arranged for camping nights. Hot weather is taken seriously with regular hydration breaks, shaded areas and sunscreen applications, and indoor and sheltered spaces plus contingency activities keep the day running through rain, wind or lightning. Children must be signed in and out each morning and afternoon by a parent or an approved guardian over the age of 18.

Camp life unfolds on Treasure Island's beachfront facilities at Pui O Beach on Lantau Island, which the group moved into in 2004 and where its own campground was designed and built for student and community camping. Everything a camp day needs is within a few steps: the surf line where the first waves are caught, a private campsite for overnight groups, the Beach Club restaurant that looks out over the bay, and shaded and indoor sheltered spaces used for snack breaks and wet-weather contingency activities. Activity kit is on site too, from surfboards and stand-up paddleboards to the Flying Kiwi, and the wider estate includes the TIG Farm set up for composting and environmental work, plus beachfront cabanas, tents and the Ohana apartment for families who want to stay over. Beyond the gate, the wetlands, coastal trails, Mui Wo bike routes and San Shek Wan river gorges become part of the programme.
