International Summer School at Queen Ethelburga’s is an extension of the same exceptional standards in leadership and staffing that define our term-time programme. For all Summer School camps, the leadership structure has a Director of Curriculum and Quality – Extra Provision & Short Courses, a Director of Marketing and Staffing and a Commercial Manager.
Most of our staff are year-round teaching and boarding professionals. Our academic team consists of qualified teachers, while our house parents are skilled boarding staff. All staff undergo annual statutory training in safeguarding, KCSIE updates, health and safety, and major incident response, among other areas. Additionally, most of our team members are certified in Emergency First Aid.
All staff working at Queen Ethelburga’s must have an up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate. An intensive background check is done on all employees within and outside the International Summer School programme.
All staff receive annual statutory training. Summer school staff receive specific INSET days for the summer school provision. CPD is hugely encouraged at QE and we host our own QE training academy for personal CPD opportunities.
QE is proud to be a multicultural and hugely diverse campus. We host staff and students from around the world. We celebrate cultural diversity as much as possible.

Seniors are allowed their mobile phones but must adhere to our acceptable use policy and instructions from teachers. Failure to comply results in phones being kept in boarding houses. Juniors are allowed access to their phones before breakfast and after dinner each day. Electronics are collected at lights out to encourage good rest for the students.
All the teachers and members of staff here are very kind and reasonable. They’re very warm and nice especially Jason, Sam, George. The basketball court is high-quality. I wanted to spend all week at the court.
I really enjoyed this summer camp, it was a very good experience, very different. I learned a lot of things and I loved making new friends. I hope I have the opportunity to come back next year!
