Oxbridge Winter Scholars

Students apply to one of four academic streams rather than picking individual classes, and once admitted they work through all the modules within that stream, moving from core theory to applied knowledge across a broad but focused set of subjects. Teaching follows the shape of a real UK university term: interdisciplinary keynote lectures from leading experts, seminars of roughly ten to twelve students prepared through set pre-reading, and small-group tutorials capped at six students for close debate and analysis. Running through the fortnight is an individual research project on a topic of the student's own choosing, supervised by academics and assessed by subject specialists, which is what turns the two weeks into something they can talk about in a university application. Admission is selective, with every applicant interviewed on academic interest, motivation and English fluency, so the cohort is made up of similarly ambitious students from many countries. Afternoons and evenings are structured too, with cultural visits, university experiences and supervised activities that connect back to the academic work, and for the 14-15 year olds the balance tips further towards hands-on exploration with three to four hours of morning study followed by museum visits, workshops and field work.
