Residential English camp in Balatongyörök, Hungary
Funside Balaton is an international sleepover summer camp for kids and youth, striving to provide the greatest selection of camp education and activities in Hungary, summer after summer. Sign up early and find out why over 1000 young people from nearly 30 countries choose our bilingual camp every summer. Uniquely in the Central European region, we are once again offering nearly 30 different classes to choose from in a single campus, with lots of fun extracurricular activities to complete each camp session. Join us from 12 July to 8 August of this year! "No summer without Funside" Important information for parents: we have a team of 50-60 teachers and instructors looking after our campers each week, with the help of a 24/7 medical staff. Our team of young and well-trained camp leaders is assembled through a long recruitment process, including background checks, and our 5-to-1 child-to-adult ratio is outstanding among camps. The official languages of the camp are English and Hungarian: our camp is open to children meeting our age requirements and language requirements.

Every session runs from midday on Sunday to midday on the following Saturday, and the week has a clear rhythm: mornings belong to the two classes your child picks from nearly thirty options, and afternoons and evenings belong to the whole camp. The two chosen classes fill the morning either as two 55-minute blocks or as one longer 110-minute block each, so pairings like English with Windsurfing, or Cooking with American Sports, are entirely up to the camper — and anyone who wants to push one subject can double it as an intensive course. Because the free-time programme is identical for everyone, friends who chose different classes still spend the rest of the day together, and everything is run bilingually with instructions given in both English and Hungarian. Each week carries its own theme, from the Funside World Cup and Jungle to ¡Viva España! and the Y2K Funside Festival, and the games, evening events and outings change with it, which is why many families book two consecutive weeks. Groups are small — four to eight children in class, organised by age and level — and the camp keeps five campers to every adult, with 50 to 60 teachers and instructors on site each week and medical staff available around the clock.

For me, having spent many years at Funside Balaton, I can say that this amazing place feels like home. When you arrive for the week, you instantly feel the magic. There is simply so much to do and experience, from taking amazing courses to participating in mesmerizing events. I basically spent my whole childhood at Funside Balaton and I would do it again, in every lifetime.

I was a camper at Funside Balaton, and those summers were truly the best! Thanks to Funside, I can now speak English confidently in any situation. With so many core childhood memories tied to this camp, I can honestly say: this is the place to be in Hungary during the summer!

Safety & Supervision
We have a team of 50-60 teachers and instructors looking after our campers each week, with the help of a 24/7 medical staff. If, for some reason, your child requires particular medical attention (e.g. allergic reactions, ADHD, asthma, etc.), please make sure to tell us both on the registration form and when checking in at the camp so we can ensure your child’s safety. The same applies to special diets: please specify your needs on the registration form so we can provide the right catering for them. Naturally, children are safe at the campsite 24 hours a day. While the camp leaders do not share rooms with the campers, our camp also has a 24/7 reception, to whom children can turn to may they have any issues during the night.
Meals
breakfast
Prepared in the camp's own kitchen.
lunch
A warm midday meal.
dinner
A warm evening meal.
snacks
A fourth daily meal at the snack point with oatmeal, instant soup or a granola bar, alongside fruit and drinking water.
The camp has its own kitchen, so breakfast, a warm lunch and a warm dinner are cooked on site and eaten together with the rest of the camp. Since 2020 there has also been a fourth daily meal: at the snack point campers can help themselves to oatmeal, instant soup or a granola bar, and fruit and drinking water are freely available through the day. Full board and drinks are part of the stay, and families are asked not to send perishable food along, as food may not be kept in the bedrooms. Special dietary meals can be arranged, and any allergy or food sensitivity must be declared before arrival so the kitchen can plan for it.
Screen time policy
Bringing mobile phones or other electronic devices to the camp is not recommended, but it is not forbidden either. The camp administration does not take responsibility for belongings brought to Funside. However, our administration staff runs a free safety deposit, where valuables can be kept safely during the day.
