Expanish’s Summer Camp in Costa Rica brings together international students ages 12–17 for a fully immersive Spanish learning experience rooted in the country’s Pura Vida lifestyle. Teens study Spanish in small groups while living in an environment that encourages communication, confidence, and cultural connection. The program blends language learning with cultural exploration and outdoor activities inspired by Costa Rica’s natural surroundings. With experienced staff, structured routines, and a strong focus on student well-being, the camp offers a safe, enriching summer where teens build Spanish skills, independence, and lasting international friendships.

This is a boutique programme for 12 to 17 year olds where the week has a clear rhythm rather than a menu to choose from: 15 Spanish lessons taught entirely in Spanish at the hotel in La Fortuna, three hands-on sustainability workshops, three to five afternoon activities of two to four hours each, and one full-day excursion, with a half-day added for students staying on into the following week. Classes are capped at around 15 students and grouped by level from A1 to C2, so beginners and confident speakers move forward at their own pace with certified native teachers. Everything outside the classroom is designed to keep the language alive, whether campers are cooking with produce they harvested on an agroecological farm, working alongside Costa Rican pupils on an environmental school project or comparing notes at a talent show. The eco thread is what sets this camp apart: teenagers do not just visit the rainforest, they look at how a community earns the Bandera Azul Ecológica and what sustainability leadership actually looks like. With teens from 14 or more nationalities living together in shared cabins and a local team on hand around the clock, the group quickly becomes the international family the programme promises.

The stay is full board, so breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served at Hotel Faro Arenal and campers never need to think about paying for a meal. The hotel is a family-run eco-property that grows part of its own produce, and that farm-to-table spirit carries into the programme: during the eco-farming workshop students harvest ingredients on an agroecological farm and then cook with what they have picked. On full-day excursion days a packed lunch travels with the group. Snacks outside mealtimes are not included and are usually covered by pocket money.

Families who prefer to drive can bring their child directly to the camp base at Hotel Faro Arenal in La Fortuna, Provincia de Alajuela, at the foot of the Arenal volcano; Expanish staff and the hotel team are on site to welcome students on arrival day. Local transfers during the programme are handled by the camp, so no further driving is needed once your child has arrived.
