Pickup service · Portland Jetport is the closest airport to camp and the easiest arrival for most families, including many from the New York metropolitan area who choose to fly rather than take the coach. Wekeela staff meet every camper on arrival inside the terminal and stay with them until they board one of the camp's chartered air-conditioned coach buses, vans or camp SUVs for the drive north to Hartford. Flights should be booked through the camp's official travel agent so arrivals can be grouped and chaperoned, and chaperones have traditionally travelled with flights out of the Washington DC and South Florida areas. The camp charges a shuttle fee of $160 one way or $285 round trip, with a private transfer to the Jetport also available at $325.

Driving to camp

Many families choose to drive their child in so they can see the grounds, meet the directors and counsellors and help their camper settle into the cabin. Coming from Portland and points south, take the Maine Turnpike (I-95) to Exit 75-Auburn, turn left onto Route 4 North and follow it about 20 miles through Auburn towards Hartford to the junction with Route 219 (Bear Pond Road), then left for 4.2 miles, past the Wekeela service entrance, and right into the Main Gate. Routes are also published from Bethel to the north (Route 26 south to Trap Corner, then Route 219), from South Paris to the west via Buckfield, and from Augusta to the east via Route 202 and Route 219. Rye, New York chaperoned coach (Rye Hilton Hotel)

Pickup service · The majority of campers from the New York metropolitan area travel on Wekeela's chaperoned chartered coach, which departs from the Rye Hilton Hotel in Rye, New York with camp staff on board for the whole journey to Hartford. Families living within reach of Rye simply drop their child at the bus, and campers flying in can join the same coach. A separate White Plains, New York shuttle also runs, but only on the published opening and closing travel days, at $285 one way or $525 round trip; the camp asks families to call to confirm arrangements for their child's specific travel needs.
