Camp Farwell is the oldest girls’ sleep-away camp in America! Founded in 1889 by Julia Farwell and now owned and operated by the Hanson Family for over 40 years, we are experts in the world or camping.
Farwell is the traditional camp for the modern family and we are continuously working to create a diverse community for both our campers and staff. Our non-competitive philosophy is ideal in helping our girls develop their self-confidence, positive self-concept and in creating friends from around the world. We have a low camper to staff ratio of 2.5:1, which is perfect for not only the first time camper, but more experienced ones as well. We have a cozy community where every camper is known by name!
We pride ourselves on hiring staff who are kind. This is one of the most important aspects of our hiring process, as well as hiring specialists in each one of our activity areas. We actively choose to hire staff from around the world, creating a uniquely diverse community in our camp bubble, to give our campers a more enriching and culturally diverse experience during their time with us. Our staff are trained to a very high standard, and we are proud to see them return year after year.
We also run a highly successful C.I.T or “Camper In Training” program for our young women who wish to become young leaders. Our C.I.T program lasts 3 years, during which, our girls learn the importance of responsibility by taking on a larger role at camp. C.I.T’s have extended privileges at camp in return for working with us, as well as trips we plan especially for them, designed to promote active teamwork and leadership skills. When CIT’s complete our training course, they can become fully fledged counsellors at Farwell.
We offer a completely elective activity program with over 25 different activities to choose from each week. These include Horseback Riding, Vaulting, Film-making, Swimming, Gymnastics, Cooking, Singing, Dance and Performing arts to name just a few! We even have our own Petting Zoo filled with animals that our campers love. Our location is nestled ‘neath the green pines of Halls Lake in beautiful Vermont. We are the only summer camp on the lake, which allows us a great deal of privacy and security, which is paramount for our campers and staff.
We welcome campers between the ages of 6-17, and offer sessions lasting between 1 and 7 weeks. Custom sessions are also available to better suit your daughter’s needs. We also offer a fun-filled Rookie Week to give a taste of camping to girls who may not have been away from home before.
At Camp Farwell, we bring the best out of our girls and help them to shine!
I just signed my daughter up for her third summer at Camp Farwell, and she is extremely excited and so am I! I can't begin to tell you how much we both love Camp Farwell. Personally, I went to Farwell when I was my daughter's age and I have very happy memories of my time there. My daughter has had two incredible summers at Farwell so far. The staff is amazing…. friendly, kind, caring, knowledgeable in the activities they lead. Marley and Rachel are two of the kindest and most sincere women we have ever met. They are both amazing directors and and a huge part of the reason why Farwell is such an incredible camp. Farwell has great activities and a top notch horseback riding program, which my daughter has participated in both summers and progressed nicely in. My daughter has learned so much during her two summers at Farwell, has grown and matured as a result of her time there, has made terrific friends and has even tried new activities like knee boarding which she loved! We both love the property Farwell is on, 'neath the pines, and on beautiful Halls Lake. I highly recommend Camp Farwell to anyone looking for a sleep-away camp where girls can be who they are, grow and learn, make amazing friends, and be cared for in a truly loving environment.

Best summer camp ever!
My daughter was a first time camper last year and absolutely loved it! She will definitely go back this summer!
As a first time camper parent, we were a little nervous, but the director of Camp Farwell, Marley gave us peace of mind by answering all our questions. They keep open lines of communication with parents, throughout the newsletters you get to know the staff, what they are doing throughout the year. They also offer webinars with Q&A to provide all the information the camper/parent needs prior to arrival so you know how to prepare and what to expect.
On welcoming day, staff greeted us warmly, assisted with parking and locating cabin. We met counselors and cabin mates; such welcoming atmosphere. We went on to explore Camp Farwell… It possess the beauty of nature, the lake, the trees, cool cabins. In awe of this place! They run an amazing program, so organized, loaded with fun activities, safe and peaceful environment.

My daughter has attended Camp Farwell for three years. It is the place she looks forward to going to all year! It's an absolutely fabulous camp. From the first year she attended, the personal attention, care, and enjoyment she got from her incredible counsellors was better than I could have even imagined. Farwell works hard to make sure each camper takes part in activities that they really want to do. Other perks are fabulous food, phenomenal all-camp fun days, and the many friends that return year after year to make Camp Farwell the close-knit community it is.
