Highlights

Overview

Birchmont is a premier overnight camp located in the beautiful Lakes Region of NH!  We are a traditional co-ed camp offering a well rounded program that includes over 30 activities. Our lake, Wentworth, is truly special. It has an all-natural sand bottom and summer temperatures in the 80’s while also being rated the cleanest lake in all of New Hampshire. We have over half a mile of lakefront which is perfect for Red Cross swim instruction, waterskiing, wake boarding, sailing, canoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, and more.  Our athletics program covers every team and indivudal sport with the option to specialize in high performance tennis instruction on our 12 lit courts. We also have myriad offerings in creative arts, adventure, and traditional camp activities. Another option is to particpate in our horseback riding program which includes both ring and trail riding. Birchmont has been continually owned and operated by four generations of the Pierce family since its founding in 1951. Come join us for summers full of fun, friendships and personal growth!

Activities

Birchmont has an extremely diversified curriculum with all of the traditional court and field sports that you can imagine, high and low ropes courses, archery, woodworking, mountain biking, pottery, and much more! Each activity period offers our campers a guided choice designed to meet each child at their own skill level and grow from there. We have a full complement of “special events” to include DJ Socials, Color War, a western Hoe Down, magicians, visiting zoo, and luaus at the lake just to name a few.
We also host and participate in athletic tournaments and inter-camp competitions throughout the Lakes Region. Tennis, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, and swim meets are all represented for campers who want competitive play beyond daily camp activities.

Every age camper will also have the opportunity to get out of camp and explore the region through our highly renowned trip program. Our trip program grows along with the age of our campers starting with exploring natural caves and mountains while our older campers go white water rafting, and travel to Boston, Maine, and Quebec. Our campers will experience the best of New England!

  1. I just wanted to take a moment of your time to say hello and thank you for making Luke’s summer so successful. He had a tremendous time at Birchmont and I know he was sad to leave such a blissful haven. I truly recognize all the small and large “things” that you all do behind the scenes to make it all work. Lastly, please thank the camp photographer. Her pictures were a huge high for me each day and helped me get through 2 sessions.

  2. All three of my kids are very much looking forward to see everyone again. I am very happy to have them in your hands during the summer. It is because of Camp Birchmont that they all have a very positive attitude towards the U.S., their people and their values.

  3. Thank you so much for this and for the wise words! Please send all of camp leadership our profound gratitude for giving our daughter and all the kids at Birchmont the joy and freedom of being kids this summer after a really really long 16 months. We miss Noelle so much but could not be more grateful for the ability to send her to a place as special as Birchmont, where she is with special friends in a very special place.

We appreciate all you do, especially this summer, to let kids be kids and make memories and friendships of a lifetime.

We have a fully equipped Health Center staffed by 4 Registered Nurses and 2 camp MDs. In the rare case of emergency, Huggins Hospital is located 6 miles from camp.

Birchmont is owned and directed by the Pierce family along with a team of 15 adult leadership staff who are teachers and parents. We also employ caring and attentive camp counselors at a ratio of 3 campers to each counselor. No camp has a better staff to camper ratio than Birchmont!

All staff must be at least 18 years of age, provide three references, undergo extensive background checks, show a proficiency in the job they are applying for and successfully complete a personal interview.

Each summer our staff complete a 10-day orientation. Prior to camp they must familiarize themselves with our staff handbook, philosophy and traditions. Weekly we conduct staff meetings to discuss the upcoming calendar and review any areas of camp that needs to be addressed for improvement. Each staff member has four ongoing and individual evaluations for real time feedback.

We intentionally discuss the importance of diversity and inclusion and practice it throughout the camp season.

Birchmont is proudly accredited by the American Camp Association and maintains all of the “Best Practices” know in organized camping. Each family will also sign a Code of Conduct each summer agreeing that their camper will uphold and exemplify Birchmont’s values.

Campers are not permitted to have mobile phones or electronics that connect to the internet.

This camp was founded in 1951.
