Residential multi-activity camp in Central Lake, United States

YMCA Camp Hayo-Went-Ha Camps is an all boys YMCA overnight camp that offers a dynamic combination of wilderness experiences and traditional in-camp activities. Located on 600 acres on the shores of beautiful Torch Lake, YMCA Camp Hayo-Went-Ha has 119 years of tradition and experience to provide incredible adventures campers remember for a lifetime. Campers learn to work together, to support each other and to respect what each member of the cabin has to offer. The wonderful variety of camp trips reinforce the value of teamwork. Cabin groups of two cabin leaders and eight campers meet the challenge of extended canoeing and hiking trips to Michigan’s north country, the Canadian wilderness or sailing the incredible lakes of Michigan, all the while learning to appreciate the beauty that surrounds you. Trained and experienced staff lead our trip programs. The morning schedule allows campers to work together as a cabin unit. The time is also used to teach campers about the camping equipment, trip location and safety before their trips. The afternoon allows each camper to individually select any one of the following activities: sailing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, arts and crafts, archery, nature studies, soccer, ultimate frisbee, dodge ball, tennis, basketball, and newspaper. Our camp motto, Each for All...All for Each is evident in all we do. The cabin group is the essence of the camping experience. We emphasize and follow the seven core values of our YMCA of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Inclusion, Teamwork, Environmental Stewardship and Responsibility in all that we do. visit our site at https://hayowentha.org/about-hayo-went-ha-camps/why-hayo-went-ha-camps/

Attended 2 summers, about 14 yrs old back around 1969. Some great memories with activities and short overnight camping. Silly me lesson, On S, Manitou I didn't have a level sleeping spot and evert time I turned in my nylon sleeping bag, I would slide out of the tent a bit. Camp cabin windows were open except for canvas roll down shades, made for real connection with the weather which I remember fondly of. Back then we had well supervised, .22 riflery range but I guessing it's not politically correct anymore, but it was cool and I did learn safety. Torch lake was cold away from shallow shore, but we didn't have dying and decayed invasive salt water alewife fish on shore fish bits in the water that Lk. Michigan had in those years. Five stars overall.

Our new health centers are staffed with certified health officers that are ready to handle the vast majority of our medical needs. There is no need to worry about your camper getting the correct medication at the correct time. All medication is tightly controlled and administered per physician instructions. We coordinate with general practitioners or hospitals in Traverse City for more advanced medical care. If you have any medical concerns, we can discuss them before camp, or you can speak with our health officer at dropoff. Any camper who requires off site medical attention will have their parents notified.
