How Search Results and Rankings Work

When you search or browse camps on World Camps, the order you see is decided by an automated ranking. This page explains the main signals that ranking reads and their general relative importance, so you know why a camp appears where it does. The signals are tuned as the platform evolves; this page reflects the parameters currently in effect.

WHAT DECIDES A CAMP'S POSITION

In order of importance:

• Families' experiences (counts most). Published reviews on World Camps — the rating and how much evidence sits behind it, with reviews attached to a real booking carrying the most weight — together with the camp's public Google rating and review count. Google ratings are always attributed to Google; they are never presented as a World Camps rating.
• Verification (high). The four public trust checks shown on every camp profile: an approved proof of insurance, business registration, staff background checks, and first-aid certification — plus an active, fully verified payment account with our payment provider.
• Responsiveness (medium). How reliably and how quickly the camp answers families' messages. A camp with no conversations yet is simply "being measured" — it is never penalised for having no history.
• Profile clarity (medium). How complete and informative the camp's profile is.
• Track record (medium). Years of operation — and only alongside real review evidence, so a long-dormant listing cannot outrank a well-reviewed newer camp on age alone.
• Live availability (medium). Whether the camp is bookable right now with published upcoming dates, and whether that availability is actively kept fresh.

Historical search interest is used only to split near-ties: when two camps score almost identically, the one more families have been looking for goes first. It never lifts a weaker camp above a stronger one.

RESULTS NEAR YOU

When you search around a location, camps are grouped into distance bands of roughly two kilometres, nearest band first. Within a band, the quality ranking above decides the order — so a camp that is marginally closer never outranks one that is meaningfully better.

FEATURED SECTIONS

Sections labelled "Featured" showcase camps on our Premium subscription plan. This is a form of sponsored placement: it appears only in those clearly separated sections, the links in them are marked as sponsored, and a camp's plan has no effect whatsoever on its position in regular search results or rankings.

WHAT NEVER AFFECTS RANKING

• No camp can pay for a better position in search results or rankings. Subscription plans and fees are not ranking inputs.
• The exact numeric weights behind the signals are not published, because they are tuned over time — but their relative importance is as described above, and this page is updated when that changes.

TRUST BADGES

Badges such as "Trusted provider" reflect an internal trust assessment built mainly from the verification and profile-quality signals described above. The underlying score is internal, and it is not itself a ranking input — the ranking counts only the public checks listed here.

Good to know: when you choose an explicit sort (for example by price), that choice is respected as-is. The ranking described here is what "Recommended" means.
