Reach Cambridge Summer School

The programme is built around a clear rhythm: mornings belong to the chosen subject course, with 20 hours of tuition a week from teachers who are Fellows, professors, researchers or postgraduates at institutions such as Cambridge, Oxford and London, while afternoons and evenings belong to activities, workshops and the city itself. Students shape their own version of the summer, choosing an academic major, adding up to one optional taster course per week from a list running from Robotics and Coding to Philosophy & Ethics or Pre-Hospital & Emergency Medicine, and then picking between the day's activity options, which on a typical afternoon might be sports on one side and a debating workshop on the other. Supervisors, many of them current undergraduates, run the daily activity schedule and look after a small corridor group each, which is why evenings feel sociable rather than scheduled: an early Run Club before breakfast, a guest speaker such as round-the-world yacht racer Ian Dickens, then a choice between a quiet Nintendo Switch evening and a ghost tour of old Cambridge. Guest lectures on global themes and university life, plus practical workshops in leadership, interview skills and public speaking, sit alongside the fun so the summer builds a CV as well as friendships. What distinguishes the programme is the deliberate balance between structure and independence, with managed free time treated as preparation for university, and the whole two, four or six weeks closing with an international talent show and an end-of-program graduation celebration.
