Residential German camp in Lindenberg, Germany

Open year-round Our students stay on campus in Lindenberg. The twin rooms as well as very few single, triple and four bed rooms have a beautiful view either of the Alps or of the forest. All rooms have their own en-suite bathrooms and enjoy the same high quality furniture, which is modern and comfortable. We carefully choose the students who will share a room with each other. We take care to match roommates who have a comparable German language level and are of similar age, yet speak different native languages. This way we encourage them to speak and practice German with each other outside of the classroom. Boys and girls are housed separately. Our students receive three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Laundry service is offered daily to all students free of charge for their personal laundry. Bed linen and towels will be provided and changed regularly. Price 1,100 EUR per week

Activities

Special focus

German · Languages

Life in Lindenberg follows a boarding-school rhythm: German lessons Monday to Friday, then a staff-led activity programme every single afternoon and evening, with sports, games or cultural events changing from day to day. Because student rooms, classrooms and the sports facilities all sit in the same building on the hill above town, the day flows easily from a lesson to the gymnasium, the climbing wall, the indoor pool, the arts and crafts rooms or the games rooms with table football, pool and ping-pong. Counsellors actively encourage and motivate students to join in, and participation in both the leisure programme and the excursions is compulsory, so no one is left sitting alone in a room. Two outings punctuate each week — a half-day trip on Wednesday to sights and towns in the region, and a full-day excursion on Saturday accompanied by Humboldt staff, with entrance fees already covered. What ties it all together is the language: German is spoken in and out of class, so every football match, barbecue on the lawn or evening disco doubles as real practice, and in winter the programme shifts to snowshoeing and optional skiing or snowboarding lessons in the nearby Alps.

Screen time policy

Free wireless internet is available at all Humboldt course centres, including Lindenberg, so students can stay in touch with home. The day itself, however, is fully structured: attendance at all classes, meals and scheduled activities and excursions is expected, and participation in the leisure and excursion programme is compulsory, which keeps free time with a screen to the edges of a busy day. German is the language of the house in and out of class, and the daily programme of sports, games, workshops and cultural events is actively encouraged by staff, who are on hand around the clock.
