Amplify Sleep Away Camp

Campers choose a specialty (we call ‘em IMMERSIVES) to focus on during each session of Amplify. Some campers sign up for a different immersive for each session they’re enrolled in, and some stay with the same immersive for the whole season. There’s no wrong way to AMPLIFY YOUR VOICE. No matter where you land, you’ll have about a million opportunities to dabble in lots of artistic areas and work alongside campers from other immersives, plus our dozens of different daily electives and activities. We love TEAMWORK and co-creation. LEARN AN INSTRUMENT, FORM A BAND, WRITE A SONG, PERFORM AT THE SHOWCASE At Amplify, kids have a fantastic time diving into the world of music. They get to learn an instrument (or get more skilled on one they already play), join forces with others to create a band, craft their own original songs, and showcase their talents on stage for the entire camp community. Whether it’s indie, pop, metal, folk, R&B, funk, blues – you name it, our camper bands explore every genre under the sun, embracing their authentic voices. PHOTOGRAPHY Young visionaries learn extensive photography skills such as light and composition while creating a personal portfolio of thematic images based on self directed passions. Campers learn post production skills using editing tools like Photoshop and Lightroom, culminating in a vibrant slideshow set to music to be premiered at our camp showcase. ROCK BAND INTENSIVE Intermediate and higher levels of musicianship in your chosen instrument required to sign up for this immersive. Campers focus entirely on developing songwriting, arrangement, and collaborative skills in band practice. Play guitar, drums, bass, keys, sing, or bring an instrument from home. Take both your playing and your songwriting to the next level with other youth who are at a similar skill level and age group. Learn and perform an original and cover song. MUSIC PRODUCTION Learn how to produce your own song using Ableton. Option to play in a band in the afternoon! Must have some experience writing songs and playing at least one instrument. Walk away from camp with not only a toolbelt bursting with modern music production skills like music theory, recording, and beat making, but also a totally polished original demo to be shared with the whole camp community at our awesome showcase and then overnighted to our own Syryn Records! MUSICAL THEATER Write, perform, direct and put together your own musical with a group of peers. Our latest addition to Amplify’s dynamic immersives will fuel your passion for the stage, hone acting, singing, and dancing skills, and create unforgettable memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. Learn acting, singing, dancing, directing, and much more in a supportive environment led by our skilled, enthusiastic mentors. Perform your original musical at the end of camp in our professional black box theatre for all of camp + professionally filmed for you to share with anyone after camp. SKATEBOARDING Learn the art of shredding in a supportive, positive atmosphere and showcase your skate reel at the final showcase! Our skate coach is a passionate, experienced skateboarder and instructor who meets campers at any skill level, whether they’re just starting to balance on the board or are ready for tricks. Push, balance, drop in, and more at your own pace. MUSIC VIDEO MAKING With the guidance of a pro-level and awesomely uplifting filmmaker, campers in this immersive create real music videos to real artists’ songs from our community! Finished videos are presented at the final showcase and provided to all campers who contributed to take home and show off. Learn everything from storyboarding, directing, shooting/editing with pro equipment, acting, and much more. JOURNALISM Amplify journalists are brave truth-seekers who produce original projects from interviews to poetic op eds, campers produce their own magazine and podcast, all of which are shown off at camp’s FINAL SHOWCASE! Campers learn best practices for choosing subjects, gathering information, and sharing with the world whatever it is you find interesting and important. Our accomplished journalism instructor mentors campers at any level how to pitch/publish original stories, write creatively yet concisely and clearly, execute honest interviews, investigate tips, and so much more. HIP HOP DANCE & CHOREOGRAPHY Take your love of dance to the next level by mastering your very own original CHOREOGRAPHY! Campers are engaged in daily lessons all about immersing themselves—no matter what level they’re currently at, even total beginners—in street dance technique and choreography/freestyle abilities. They learn from and rehearse with working professional dancers/artists, importantly creating their own unique work with new tools and approaches. Campers also learn the history around hip hop. Their session culminates with a performance of their original work in our professional black box theatre. All pieces are filmed and emailed digitally after camp.
