Why we love it

Good to know

Weymouth English Centre is a small and friendly summer school for international students aged 13 to 17 in Weymouth, on the south-west coast of England. We offer four courses:

English & Activities

English & Sailing

English & Windsurfing

English & Outdoor Adventure

Accommodation is with local hosts, classes and many of the activities are held at the Weymouth College campus that offers excellent facilities.

Our 'English & Activities' package includes tuition, homestay, a full programme of activities in the afternoons and evenings, a half-day trip on Wednesday and a full-day trip on Saturday. Students have the possibility to make their own choices from a variety of sports, games, cultural events, excursions and other activities.

Our 'English & Sailing' and ‘English & Windsurfing packages offer the same as the ‘English & Activities’ programme with the exception that afternoon activities from Tuesday to Friday consist of sailing or windsurfing lessons that take place at the same venue as the sailing events of the 2012 Olympics. Students receive a Royal Yachting Association Certificate at the end of the course.

Similarly, our 'English & Outdoor Adventure' includes outdoor adventure activities on Tuesday to Friday afternoons. These activities include windsurfing, mountain biking, climbing, paddle-boarding and kayaking.

Our dedicated team is there for you 24/7 to ensure you have a lovely time in Weymouth!

Homestay - no better way to stay!

All our students stay with carefully selected homestays as a member of the family, which is a great way to experience the English way of life, as well as using your language skills in a natural way.

Accommodation is sharing a twin room with a student of a different nationality. If we do not have a suitable student for you to share a room with, we will put you in a single room at no extra cost. Unless you ask us to stay with a friend, you will be the only guest of your native language in the house. Some hosts take one or two students and the maximum is four.

Typical evening activities are pizza and games, a fashion show, beach games, a talent show, a disco and more.

Those who choose English & Sailing, English & Windsurfing or English & Outdoor Adventure will follow their chosen sport four afternoons a week and spend the rest of the time with all the other students on the same programme.

Excursions – see the best of England

Have you heard of Durdle Door? It is a stunning sight in England on the Jurassic Coast and one of our afternoon trips which we offer as part of English & Activities on Wednesday afternoons. Weymouth is in a fantastic location and, within easy reach, there are many great half-day trips our students enjoy visiting.

On Saturdays, you go on full-day trips to iconic places such as Stonehenge & Salisbury, London, or Oxford. Or if you want a mix of history and excellent shopping, Exeter is the place for you. In the fashionable city of Bath you can see glorious Georgian architecture. For a day full of adventure combining dramatic coastlines, with a lovely seaside town, a ride on a steam train across the countryside in true Harry Potter style, visiting a traditional village with a castle ruin, go on our Purbeck day-trip. Be aware, this involves walking!
