Overview

Located in beautiful grounds, just 30 minutes from Central London, Mill Hill offers short courses in both spring and summer, creating the perfect environment for both learning and enjoyment.

Our courses cater to two groups: students preparing to attend British Boarding Schools and those looking to sample British education.

We welcome international boys and girls aged from 12 to 17. Our courses combine English learning with either Science and Mathematics or Sport. These core elements are complemented by a varied programme of Creative Art classes including Music, Dance, Drama and Art.

While our courses primarily focus on academic advancement, the diverse social programme and the exciting range of activities and excursions ensures that students find their time at Mill Hill stimulating and rewarding.

Situated within the campus of internationally renowned Mill Hill School, we are proud to offer fantastic facilities, including an indoor heated swimming pool, recently refurbished classrooms, comfortable and welcoming boarding houses, and extensive sports facilities.

Each week of Mill Hills short courses timetable comprises 15 hours of English, and a further 15 hours divided equally between Creative Arts and either Science and Mathematics or Sport. Creative Arts classes include Music, Dance, Drama and Art.

Spring School courses last from one to two weeks, while Summer School courses last from two to eight weeks. Our courses enable young learners to consolidate their knowledge of English, whilst gaining an insight into life in a British boarding school.

Each week also includes two full-day excursions for our students. One excursion takes them to nearby London, while the other explores charming destinations such as Brighton, Oxford, Cambridge, Warwick Castle, and the Harry Potter Studio Tour.

Accommodation

Students live in one of the school’s welcoming and comfortable boarding houses.

Accommodation is provided in comfortable single, twin or triple rooms within the school's boarding houses. Our houses are divided into separate sections for girls and boys, with Wi-Fi fitted throughout and shared common rooms with televisions, games, and pool tables. Boys and girls may not enter each other's boarding sections or bedrooms. Staff supervision is maintained within the boarding house to ensure a safe and homely environment.

The boarding school experience, whether for one or eight weeks, offers valuable lessons in independence and cooperation for all students. It serves as an ideal preparation for those planning to continue their education in a British boarding school.

Activities

Our students enjoy an engaging social programme, which includes a wide variety of evening activities scheduled by our dedicated activities team.

Our evening activity programme is a lively and important part of our students' experience, offering a wide range of engaging activities to help students make friends and enjoy their time at Mill Hill. From sports tournaments and talent shows to discos, quiz nights and off-site trips, we aim to provide something for everyone.

Beyond the enjoyment, these activities promote social interaction, boost confidence, and offer a refreshing break from academic studies. They create an inclusive atmosphere where students can grow personally and build lasting memories.

Each week, we also arrange two full-day excursions for our students. One excursion takes them to nearby London, while the other explores charming destinations such as Brighton, Oxford, Cambridge, Warwick Castle, and the Harry Potter Studio Tour.

In London, our visits may include popular attractions like The London Eye, a scenic River Thames Cruise, The British Museum, and The Tower of London. Brighton is always a favourite, combining the attraction of a typical English seaside resort with the historical interest of the Royal Pavilion and the craft shops lining the narrow streets of the Lanes. The ancient university cities of Oxford and Cambridge offer the opportunity to tour a college and try punting on the river.

The Harry Potter Studio tour is conveniently located less than half an hour’s drive from Mill Hill. It offers a fascinating insight into the making of the movies, with many original props, sets and costumes. Other visits include the historic Warwick Castle and Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, Englands most celebrated playwright. Additionally, we organise evening trips to central London, providing an excellent opportunity to soak in the atmosphere of our capital city, which is just a half-hour journey from Mill Hill.

All excursions are led and supervised by our dedicated staff. Students aged 12 to 14 are accompanied at all times, ensuring their safety, while those aged 15 to 17 have the chance to explore independently for short periods, encouraging them to immerse themselves in their surroundings. Sightseeing, cultural visits and even shopping provide contexts within which speaking and listening skills are put to the test. They are also great fun and provide memories to last a lifetime.

Language Lessons

Our English classes form the core of our programme, enabling students of all levels to improve and consolidate their knowledge of the language.

All of our courses have 15 hours of English per week. Our students take a placement test on arrival to assess their English level. The results of their tests, along with the age and nationality of students, are given consideration when dividing them into classes. Our classes typically range from A1 – C2 level, ensuring that there is a suitable class for everyone, from those students at beginner level through to those with near native competency. Our maximum class size is 12, and lessons take place at the recently refurbished campus at Mill Hill International.

Complimenting their English classes, students can expect further 15 hours of classes per week divided equally between Creative Arts and either Science and Mathematics or Sport. Creative Arts classes include Music, Dance, Drama and Art.

I’ve been to four other summer schools before but none of them were as unique as Mill Hill. I feel like my English has improved a lot and I’m happy I got to visit London and Brighton. The most important thing is the people, though. I found lots of wonderful friends who I will miss so much when I go back home.

Health & Safety

The safety and well-being of our students is the key priority for all our staff, from the Centre Manager to the subject teachers and activity leaders. All our staff are dedicated to ensuring the welfare of our students throughout their stay. Our courses maintain a high staff-to-student ratio, and the majority of our staff are residential, staying in the same boarding houses as students. This ensures our students remain safe throughout their stay and always have someone to go to if required. In the unlikely event that it is needed, some of our staff have first aid training and, where necessary, students are taken to the local doctor or hospital for medical treatment.
