Welcome to ASIJ’s Summer Passport Program This academic program has been a vital part of summer learning at ASIJ for 30 years. Students from all over the world have been attracted to the diverse menu of classes that generate curiosity and inspire learning. Our 3-week program welcomes students in grades K–9 to experience a robust learning environment. Classes are taught in English. Additionally, native Japanese classes are offered to heritage speakers in grades 2, 3, 4 and 5–9. Design Studio, Coding, Creative Writing, Ceramics, and Mixed Media are just a few courses in a full complement of language arts, mathematics, technology, Arts, and Sports classes for grades 5–9. The elementary division explores, learns, and creates in a daily rotation of classes designed for them. EXPLORE. Investigate and probe new areas of learning. Examine and consider ideas for a deep dive into familiar or new territory. LEARN. Robust experiences offer new insight and perspectives. Create. Innovation, imagination and ingenuity spark new ideas and understandings.

This is a three-week day programme running Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:00pm, with a rhythm closer to a lively school term than a drop-in activity camp. Older students in grades 5–9 build their own timetable from the course menu, selecting from language arts, mathematics, technology, arts and sports classes, so two children in the same grade may have quite different days. The elementary division instead follows a fixed daily rotation designed for younger learners, exploring, learning and creating across several classes before the afternoon finishes. Heritage Japanese speakers can add native Japanese classes to that mix, while everything else is delivered in English, which makes the programme a natural fit for the international families who come to ASIJ each summer. What sets it apart is the breadth of that menu — ceramics, coding, design studio and creative writing under one roof — and the thirty years of summer teaching experience behind it.

Served every programme day, Monday to Friday, and included in the tuition.
Because the day runs from 8:30am to 3:00pm, lunch is part of the programme rather than something to pack: a daily lunch is covered by the tuition, so your child eats on campus with classmates between the morning and afternoon classes.

The American School in Japan's Chofu campus in western Tokyo
Summer Passport takes place on ASIJ's Chofu campus at 1-1-1 Nomizu, a short distance from central Tokyo, so children learn in the same setting the school uses during the academic year. The campus hosts the full spread of the summer menu, from ceramics and mixed media studios to technology and coding classes and the spaces used for the sports courses, with the programme office reachable on site for anything families need during the three weeks.

Families driving in bring their child to the American School in Japan's Chofu campus at 1-1-1 Nomizu, Chofu-shi, Tokyo 182-0031. Pickup service · ASIJ runs its own bus service to the Chofu campus for Summer Passport families, bookable either as round-trip transport for the full three weeks or as a one-way option at half the round-trip fare (one-way ¥28,000).
