Программа
Football coaching takes place on five afternoons per week for at least three hours per session under the guidance of John McDermott. John is a highly experienced and successful football coach and former professional player with over 25 years of experience in the game. He is currently the Director of Football at Ackworth School Football Academy, which is linked to Harrogate Town FC. He is an UEFA A licence holder, the highest practical coaching qualification offered by the football association. For those students choosing the multi-sports option, a diverse and dynamic schedule is planned. Over five afternoons they will be able to experience traditional sports such as athletics, table tennis and squash. Weekly swimming and tennis lessons are included, as well as outdoor pursuits such as cross-country, hiking and orienteering, which will enable students to fully enjoy the English countryside. Additionally, a weekly visit to an adventure sports centre will include activities such as climbing and go-karting. Two excursion days per week are included, taking students off-campus to visit local beauty spots, cities and museums, including regular tours of Premier League football stadiums such as Anfield and Etihad. A full programme of evening activities will help students to have fun and relax at the end of the day, taking part in movie nights, zombie tag, quizzes and a weekly BBQ and garden party in the school’s extensive grounds. These activities will help our learners to make new friends and create lifelong memories of their time in Yorkshire.

Welcome to St Giles Football and Sports Academy. This exciting summer programme is held in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside and offers learners the chance to participate in immersive English lessons in the mornings and take part in world-class football training with a UEFA-A licensed coach, or multi-sports training in the afternoons. On excursion days, students will visit Premier League football stadiums such as Anfield, the home of the unstoppable Liverpool FC, and Etihad Stadium, home to the league-busting Manchester City. Students can also enjoy trips to York, Liverpool, Scarborough or Knaresborough to experience the best of the stunning scenery, beaches and sights in the North of England. An opportunity to experience boarding school life at its best, the camp will take place in historic Ackworth School near Pontefract, where students can benefit from a secure and private campus offering top-notch sporting facilities including an indoor pool, professional-level football facilities, tennis courts, and a gymnasium. In their downtime a fun and dynamic social programme is offered with weekly BBQs, games nights, and a celebration disco.

St Giles employs a Centre Manager to oversee all aspects of the camp. In addition, the management team will consist of an Academic Manager and/or Activity Manager as needed, supported by a team of Teachers and Activity Leaders. Management staff onsite are also supported by the St Giles Juniors Head Office Team. This is a supervised camp, and students are under full supervision at all times. If a student has parental consent and is over the age of 12, they may be given limited free time, always in minimum groups of three, for activities such as shopping during an excursion to a set time frame and within a strictly designated area.
Academic staff are trained to a minimum of CELTA level or equivalent. All sports coaches hold professional qualifications from the relevant body.
Yes, all adults working with children in the UK are required to have an Enhanced DBS check carried out in advance, as well as professional references. St Giles is committed to ensuring our staff meet the required standards. We also employ a large number of returning staff who come back to work for us summer after summer.
All summer centre staff are required to take part in several comprehensive training sessions in advance of the start date, both face to face and online. Throughout the summer staff take part in performance assessments and are offered additional training and support where needed. Professional development is important to us and staff are encouraged to reach their personal and professional goals throughout their employment with St Giles.
St Giles Juniors camps foster diversity and inclusion by creating an environment where individuals from all backgrounds feel welcomed and supported. We prioritise equal opportunities for students and employees of all genders, abilities, and cultural backgrounds, ensuring that everyone has access to the same high-quality teaching, training facilities, and support systems.
Codes of conduct and safety information are clearly communicated in our welcome packs which are sent to students and their guardians before the summer, and again during induction and throughout the camp. Copies of these documents are available on request.
Students are encouraged away from using their phones during planned excursions and activities. During lessons, mobile phones are generally not allowed except on occasions when the students may be asked to use their search engines to help them research an area of study. During free time and overnight students have access to their own devices in order to have the freedom to call home at their own leisure.
