Panoramica

Alpengirl Camp offers a wide range of outdoor activities, many of which are designed to be challenging yet accessible for girls of all skill levels. The activities are intentionally structured to promote personal growth, teamwork, and a connection with nature. Each of our itineraries offers a unique blend of the following activities that highlight the best that the region has to offer:
1. Backpacking and Hiking:Girls embark on multi-day backpacking trips through scenic wilderness areas. These treks encourage physical fitness, self-reliance, and problem-solving skills. Each trip is designed to be both challenging and rewarding, with plenty of opportunities to reflect on personal growth.
2. Rock Climbing:Some camps provide rock climbing experiences on natural rock faces. Girls learn climbing techniques, safety practices, and gain a sense of accomplishment as they conquer various challenges. Rock climbing is particularly empowering, as it requires both physical strength and mental focus. *All rock climbing activities are facilitated by contracted professional outfitters.
3. Whitewater Rafting:Whitewater rafting is an exhilarating part of the Alpengirl experience. Girls will have the chance to raft down rivers with varying levels of difficulty, navigating rapids, learning about water safety, and mastering teamwork on the water. Whitewater rafting is a thrilling way for campers to build trust, communication skills, and develop their confidence in a dynamic outdoor environment. *All whitewater rafting activities are facilitated by contracted professional outfitters.
4. Horseback Riding:Campers can enjoy the beauty of the wilderness on horseback, exploring scenic trails and learning foundational riding skills. Whether they are beginners or have previous riding experience, girls will gain confidence in their abilities while riding through forests, meadows, and rolling hills. The emphasis is on building a strong bond with the horses and understanding animal care, including grooming and saddling. *All horseback riding activities are facilitated by contracted professional outfitters.
5. Backcountry Horse Packing and Llama Packing:For a truly immersive wilderness experience, campers can participate in backcountry horse packing or llama packing trips. These multi-day excursions take girls deep into remote wilderness areas, where they travel by horseback or on foot, carrying their gear on pack horses or llamas. Backcountry animal packing combines the challenge of wilderness camping with the unique opportunity to build connections with their animals. Campers will develop leadership skills as they work together to manage the logistics of the trip, care for the animals, and navigate the backcountry terrain. *All animal packing activities are facilitated by contracted professional outfitters.
6. Canoeing, Kayaking, and Stand-Up Paddle-boarding:In areas with lakes or rivers, girls have the chance to paddle on the water, learning techniques for canoeing and kayaking. These activities build confidence and teamwork, as well as a connection to water-based environments.
7. Outdoor Survival Skills:Alpengirl campers are taught practical survival skills, including fire-making, shelter-building, navigation (using maps and compasses), cooking over an open fire, and wilderness first aid. These skills are not only fun to learn but also valuable for fostering a sense of independence and competence in the outdoors. Campers are able to earn "skill beads" for the skills that they've committed to mastering throughout the session.
8. Environmental Education:The camp integrates environmental education into its programs by helping campers learn about local ecosystems, wildlife, and sustainable practices. Activities include nature walks, flora/fauna identification, and group discussions on Leave No Trace ethics and practices. Girls are encouraged to become eco-conscious leaders, making mindful decisions about their impact on the planet.
9. Sea Kayaking:In coastal locations, Alpengirl offers sea kayaking excursions, where girls paddle along stunning shorelines, explore hidden coves, and learn about the unique coastal ecosystems. Sea kayaking promotes awareness of tidal patterns, navigation, and wildlife observation. It’s a beautiful and peaceful way for girls to connect with water and enjoy the serenity of the sea. *All sea kayaking activities are facilitated by contracted professional outfitters.

Programma

A typical day at Alpengirl Camp is filled with exciting outdoor adventures, skill-building activities, and moments of reflection, all within a supportive and fun environment. The schedule balances physical challenges, personal growth opportunities, and time for relaxation and connection with other campers.
Here's what a typical day might look like:
7:00 AM – Wake-Up and Morning Alpenyoga:The day begins early at Alpengirl Camp as campers rise with the sun, eager for the day ahead. The group's chosen Leader of the Day helps the guides get everyone out of their tents and prepare for the day's activities. The group gathers for a brief Alpenyoga session to loosen up their muscles and set a positive tone for the day.
8:00 AM – Breakfast:Breakfast is a hearty and nutritious meal designed to fuel the day’s adventures. Meals are prepared together as a group when possible, teaching campers how to cook outside. Typical breakfast options include Strawberry-Stuffed French Toast, Oh My! Overnight Oats, Alpengirl Breakfast Burritos, Spring Lover's Fruit Parfait, and more!
9:00 AM – Adventure time!Depending on the itinerary, the day's adventure could include:
Backpacking/Hiking: A guided hike through local trails, learning about the ecosystem and gaining outdoor navigation skills.Rock Climbing: A day spent on the rock walls or outdoor climbing sites, building confidence, strength, and teamwork.Horseback Riding: A scenic trail ride or learning to care for horses.Whitewater Rafting: Getting geared up for an exciting day on the river, learning the basics of rafting safety and teamwork.Sea Kayaking: Exploring the coastline, learning to navigate the waters, and understanding the dynamics of tides and currents.
*Note: Depending on the session, the activity may also involve setting up camp, traveling to new locations, or exploring new wilderness areas.
12:00 PM – Lunch:Lunch is typically served in the field, on the trail, or at the campsite, depending on the day's activities. Campers learn how to pack their own trail lunches (e.g., sandwiches, wraps, energy bars, dried fruits, and nuts) and then enjoy a well-deserved break.
4:00 PM – Camp TimeAfter an action-packed morning and afternoon, campers are given some free time at camp. This is a great opportunity for girls to take some time to engage in quiet activities (such as journaling, sketching, or reading), play some group games, and bond with their group. If the camp is near a body of water, campers may have the opportunity to swim or simply relax by the shore.
This is also when campers might have the chance to work on their skill beads they've committed to for the session. These include shelter building, campfire starting, water purifying, wilderness first aid, and more.
5:30 PM – Dinner Preparation:Campers work together to prepare dinner, often using camp stoves or fire pits. Cooking together is a key part of the camp experience, and girls take turns helping with meal preparation and cleanup. Dinner usually consists of hearty and nutritious meals, such as Garden Pesto Pizza, Rice Bowls with Sassy Peanut Sauce, Fried Rice Quinoa, Creamy Broccoli and Garlic Pasta, and more!
6:30 PM – Dinner:After a long day of outdoor adventure, dinner is a time for everyone to gather around the table (or campfire) and enjoy a warm meal together. Campers share their highlights from the day, talk about their experiences, and encourage one another.
7:30 PM – Evening Relaxation:Evenings are filled with camaraderie, storytelling, and reflection. This may also include an AlpenOlympic favorite - the Alpengirl Talent Show! Groups also participate in Leader of the Day Appreciation and get to paint their nails for the different kudos they've received from guides that day.
9:15 PM – 9:15 activityBefore bed, campers often participate in a unique group activity during the incredible peaceful time where the long summer day begins to turn to night. This is a chance for the group to begin to wind down and appreciate the beauty around them.
9:30 PM – Bedtime Prep:Campers clean up their spaces, brush their teeth, and prepare for bed. Tents are organized, and gear is packed away - with special attention to getting all of the "smellies" into the appropriate bear-safe spaces! Campers have the opportunity to read or journal for a bit in their tents as they prepare for sleep.
10:00 PM – Lights Out:After a fulfilling day of adventure, learning, and camaraderie, it's time for bed. Campers drift off to sleep, eagerly anticipating the new experiences and challenges that the next day will bring.
The daily schedule at Alpengirl Camp blends structured activities with opportunities for rest, reflection, and bonding. Each day is designed to challenge campers, push them outside their comfort zones, and provide them with the tools and confidence to succeed both in the wilderness and in their everyday lives!
