Activities

Special focus

Spanish · Languages

The week has a clear and reassuring rhythm: Spanish classes fill five mornings, with four hours of lessons taught entirely in Spanish in small groups placed by level, and the afternoons belong to the city. Every weekday brings a cultural, social or sporting activity lasting between two and four hours, so language practice continues outside the classroom with the same staff and the same friends. Three evenings a week the group comes together for an organised social activity, and three times a week teens step into a life skills workshop on themes such as public speaking, mindfulness, teambuilding or managing money, which is what makes this programme more than a language course. Weekends open up for an excursion to a nearby cultural site for students enrolled for two weeks or more. Attendance at classes and activities is not optional, and with staff living in the residence the day flows from lesson to activity to evening under the same supervision, which is exactly why teens travelling on their own settle in quickly.

Meals

breakfast

Served buffet-style at the residence as part of full board for overnight campers.

lunch

Taken in the cafeteria by both overnight and day campers; replaced by a packed lunch on day-trip excursions.

dinner

Served at the residence for overnight campers before evening activities or free time.

Overnight campers are on full board, so every meal of the day is taken care of from the first breakfast to the last dinner: buffet-style meals are served in the residence dining hall, which keeps things simple for teens who are still finding their feet in a new country. Day campers, who sleep at home with their parents, join their friends for lunch in the same cafeteria. When the group heads out on a weekend day trip, the school hands each student a packed lunch with a snack so nobody is left hunting for food between visits. Snacks outside those excursions are not part of the programme, which is one reason Expanish suggests students bring some pocket money for the week.
