Our German lessons take place in our Youth Guest House Brigittenau, since our students live in the same building and they do not have to leave the premises and have only short distances to get to class. Our students live in the Guest House Wien-Brigittenau, Vienna’s most modern youth hostel. It is ideally located between Danube Island and downtown Vienna, which gives our students a blend of the atmosphere of the big city with the advantages of a quiet and safe residential area. The classrooms on the Bertha von Suttner school ship are within walking distance. The city center with its many historic and cultural sights can easily be reached during free time. The nearby Danube Island is an oasis of tranquility and is ideal for relaxation, sports and manifold leisure activities. The bright and modern twin rooms all have en-suite bathrooms, as well as air conditioning. We carefully choose the students who will share a room with each other. We take care to match roommates who have a comparable German language level and are of similar age, yet speak different native languages. This way we encourage them to speak and practice German with each other outside of the classroom. Boys and girls are housed separately. Our students receive three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Breakfast and dinner will be served in the dining room of the youth hostel, while lunch will be served on board the ship.Laundry service is offered to all students free of charge once a week for their personal laundry. Bed linen and towels will be provided and changed regularly. The duration of accommodation can be either 2 weeks or 4 weeks.

Every day we offer an attractive and varied activity program with sports, games or cultural events for the leisure time after class. Our staff will encourage and motivate students to participate in the activities. This leisure program is included in the tuition fees. Sport: Football, Slacklining, Swimming Excursions: Every Saturday, our staff members organize and accompany full-day excursions to attractive destinations. Every Wednesday, our students will have half-day excursions to sights and interesting towns within the region. Arts: Handicrafts, Museums, Prater, City tours Other: Billiards, Board games, Table football

All courses are offered as a full-package including accommodation, full board, daily activities and excursions. We guarantee reliable around-the-clock supervision, both during the excursions as well as throughout the whole course. All students are expected to attend all classes, meals and scheduled activities and excursions. All participants receive a certificate after the final exam upon completion of the course. The certificate will indicate the German language level achieved in the course in the areas of listening comprehension, reading comprehension, oral expression, writing and grammar, as well as the number of lessons attended.

A lesson is 45 minutes long. Our courses comprise 30 lessons per week. In the summer months, on the first day of class there are usually no lessons, but instead the placement test is given and student orientation is held. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. There is an additional lesson on Monday afternoon, as well as two lessons each on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. There are on average 10 students of different nationalities in our classes. The small size assures that each student will actively participate in class. The classes are divided as homogeneously as possible according to the language level of the students. All students are expected to participate fully in their German course. Thus, a certain amount of homework is obligatory in all German classes. It is given regularly and involves preparation before and revision work after the day’s lessons. However, the amount of homework will always allow sufficient time for leisure activities. Written homework will be corrected and returned to the student, serving as an indication of his or her individual progress. All course participants take a weekly test which comprises the content of the preceding week of classes, so that students and teachers can assess the progress made in learning German. For long-term students at the conclusion of each language level (after five weeks) an additional comprehensive skill level exam is given which must be passed with a minimum result of 75% in order to advance to the next level.

Se houver uma proibição de entrada, o curso pode ser cancelado sem custos. A taxa de curso paga pode ser deixada como crédito para um curso posterior no Humboldt-Institut ou pode ser reembolsada.

Que medidas de saúde e segurança estão em vigor?

As crianças e os adolescentes são vigiados 24 horas por dia e há sempre uma pessoa de contacto perto deles. Caso necessite de um seguro de saúde de viagem durante a sua estadia no nosso instituto, pode subscrevê-lo através do Humboldt-Institut, juntamente com a sua inscrição. A taxa é de 2 euros por dia de estadia. O seguro de saúde de viagem cobre doenças e acidentes (e qualquer tratamento médico necessário) que ocorram durante a sua estadia no programa. Qualquer tratamento relacionado com doenças ou acidentes ocorridos antes do início do curso não será coberto pelo seguro de viagem. Qualquer tipo de problema de saúde auto-infligido também não será coberto. O seguro de saúde de viagem não inclui um seguro de responsabilidade civil.

Qual é a proporção de funcionários por aluno?

A proporção de estudantes para supervisores é de 15:1. Um cuidado fiável para os nossos estudantes menores nos cursos para crianças e adolescentes é garantido 24 horas por dia. Os nossos supervisores estão preparados para as suas tarefas no instituto em entrevistas detalhadas e pessoais ou em workshops. No início da sua actividade no local do curso, recebem uma introdução abrangente aos processos, responsabilidades e requisitos educacionais nas actividades de lazer e cuidados. Cada trabalho é avaliado e são realizadas sessões de reflexão no local para aprofundar e consolidar as competências necessárias para esta actividade pedagógica e para assegurar e melhorar ainda mais a qualidade dos cuidados de saúde a longo prazo.
