概要

The Rugby School Course Programme offers students aged 13 to 17 the opportunity to experience life at one of the world's most prestigious boarding schools. The course combines academic rigour, English language learning and cultural exploration.

Students will follow an academic programme based on Rugby's timetable where they will be able to take lessons in History & Politics, Maths, Business & Economics, Physics, Art and Design Technology, and English language. Lessons are supported by tutorials and academic enrichment activities. RSSC's interdisciplinary Academic Enrichment (Æ)sessions highlight broader, connected thinking, encouraging students to make links across disciplines.

Through the programme's Futures Advisory sessions students are given insights into making successful applications to elite schools and universities, such as Rugby School itself, and Oxford and Cambridge, we aim to inspire students and contribute to their personal growth.

We have a varied co-curricular programme:

Futures Advisory – students are given guidance on applying to top UK universities like the LSE, Imperial College, Oxford and Cambridge. Also in these sessions students will meet recent graduates in Medicine, Law and Engineering to hear about their journeys of success and receive guidance and network.

Sports – we encourage students to try rugby and/or hockey because these are the traditional sport played at Rugby School. All sessions are led by professional coaches. Other sports, such as football and tennis can be played as we understand that not everyone wants to play rugby or hockey.

Academic enrichment visits – these are trips linked to your lessons. For example, Maths and History combine in a visit to the World War 2 codebreaking centre at Bletchley Park (home of Alan Turing’s Enigma machine). We also visit London (the Houses of Parliament) and Oxford (visiting an Oxford College and the Ashmolean Museum).

Formal dinners with guest speakers. Students are asked to dress smartly for these dinners.

The Rugby School Short Course is unlike most other summer school programmes in that it doesn’t just offer English Language learning and practice..

Our courses are built on a unique collaboration between our Subject Teachers and EAL (English as an Additional Language) teachers, to offer our students additional taster sessions in traditional subject classes like History, Economics and Physics, which are taught “in” English alongside those classes for the learning “of” English.

Students will be pre-tested for their English Language level and streamed to tailor class content to learner abilities. In addition, we have taken measures to design lesson delivery following CLIL methodology to support comprehension of the subject specific content.

語学レッスン

All students will study some English as an Additional Language (EAL). The EAL element of the programme is flexible. How much will depend on their ability and their goals.

Qualified professionals teach EAL classes to develop and practice English proficiency, which will be streamed according to the pre-tested English level of our students. The opportunity to apply this language proficiency to learning “in English” rather than “of English” in subject teacher-led lessons is an exciting and immersive challenge, reflective of many international schools. It’s an excellent taster for students planning to study in this environment and an extension for those already used to learning in English.

宿泊施設と宿泊施設設備

Students stay in School House, the most traditional and 'famous' of Rugby's boarding houses. Rooms are either 2, 3 or 4-bed. The Housemaster or Housemistress and Pastoral Manager supervise students in the accommodation so that everyone feels safe and cared for.

Meals are served in one of the School's refectories. There is one formal dinner per week where students are expected to dress smartly and formally. Packed lunches are provided for excursions and on visits to London and Oxford students will have dinner in a restaurant.

In downtime, students can relax in the beautiful school grounds or common rooms.

Yes. Staff are hired according to the safer recruitment principles set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (2025). This includes all staff having enhanced DBS checks, overseas police checks (where necessary) and at least 2 references taken.

All of our staff attend induction and training days so they are fully-prepared for their roles. They are also invited to take part in INSET days during the programme.

All staff are included in our performance review process. We hold regular staff meetings before and during the two week period and undergo formal lesson observations. At the end of the programme we complete a full staff evaluation to ensure feedback is captured.

Respect, tolerance and kindness are fundamental values of the Rugby School Short Course programmes.
We are committed to promoting equal opportunities in employment. Our employees and any job applicants will receive equal treatment regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marital or civil partner status, pregnancy or maternity, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation. We recruit people based on their suitability and ability to do the job and who are enthusiastic, motivated, appropriately qualified and above all else are keen to work with children. We require them to understand the importance of safeguarding in our organisation.

The importance of our vales and ethos is explained to students during their own induction and set out in the student code of conduct.

Staff and students each have their own codes of conduct which set out the standards of behaviour expected. These are explained during training and induction and promoted throughout the programme.

Students are not permitted to use their phones during lessons, activities and mealtimes. However, students can use their phones first thing in the morning, at breaktimes, in the evenings and when on excursions. If they need to speak to their parents we, of course, allow them to use their phones.
